Why leave the lights on?

.
Last fall, the Wisconsin Public Service Commission gave approval to Xcel Energy for a 14 percent increase in electric rates. Now Xcel will add a 3 percent surcharge to its rates.

I wonder why many farm lights are kept burning all night. It is nothing but a waste of power. I wish electric power companies would put on-and-off switches on all farms and charge a flat rate for all electric power.
I can compare this to letting the kitchen faucet run all night. I am sure someone would shut off the water.

One would never be able to catch an Amish farmer letting a kerosene lantern burn all night in the farmyard.

We do need to conserve soil, water and electricity.
