Charges: ‘Accident victim’ near Dells was beaten

.
MAUSTON, Wis. (AP) — A man initially believed to have been seriously injured in a Juneau County traffic accident had been beaten, authorities say, and two people are charged in the attack.

Thirty-five-year-old Carl Bennett of Baraboo faces a charge of attempted first-degree intentional homicide, and 42-year-old Kelli Tasior of Adams is charged with being party to attempted first-degree intentional homicide.
A criminal complaint said the two left Wisconsin Dells in Tasior’s car with 35-year-old Dave Anderson in the early morning hours of Oct. 30 apparently after a night of drinking. The car left a road in the town of Lyndon and overturned, and Anderson was found lying in the roadway about 260 feet away with severe head injuries.

He was airlifted to University Hospital in Madison, and he remained there Thursday night, reported in serious condition.

Hospital officials told Juneau County authorities the injuries were consistent with a beating, the complaint said. A reconstruction of the accident scene determined it was consistent with a slow-speed turnover, and Anderson was not believed to have been ejected.

When a search warrant was executed at Bennett’s residence Monday, his girlfriend told authorities she had washed his bloodied pants and jacket and Tasior’s bloodied pants after picking them up at a gas station.

On Tuesday, Circuit Judge Paul Curran set cash bond at $100,000 for Bennett, who was jailed pending an initial court appearance Nov. 19.

Charges against Tasior were filed Tuesday. The county jail said she was not being held Thursday night. No phone listing could be found for her.

Computerized court records did not list attorneys for either person.
