In these tough economic times, I am proud that La Crosse school district voters recognized that quality schools remain a vital component to rebuilding our economy and preparing our children for the global marketplace. I want to commend the community for its support of the school referendum that passed Tuesday, a testament to a commitment to quality education that we all share in Wisconsin.

Trane Co. also deserves praise for its tremendous commitment to our schools, offering to donate $600,000 worth of heating and cooling equipment — all made here in La Crosse — if voters approved this vital referendum. This new equipment will help the La Crosse school district increase their energy efficiency and save money, allowing the funds voters just approved to go even further.
I am proud to represent a community that puts such a premium on our kids’ education. I am confident that this renewed commitment will make La Crosse schools even better.
