SPARTA — The Right Rev. Blaise Fuez, 86, retired abbot of the Cistercian Abbey of Our Lady of Spring Bank in Sparta and the former economist of the Cistercian Order, died Sunday, Nov. 16, 2008, in Sparta after a brief illness. The body will lie in state beginning at 5 p.m. today in the oratory of the Abbey of Our Lady of Spring Bank in Sparta with Vespers of the Dead at 6 p.m. A Solemn Mass of Requiem will be said at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Abbey Oratory. Lester J. Kaiser
MINDORO — Lester J. Kaiser, 80, of Mindoro died Saturday, Nov. 15, 2008, at Mulder Health Care Facility in West Salem.
He was born March 15, 1928, in La Crosse County to Wenzel and Ida (Fillner) Kaiser. On June 22, 1954, Lester married Elsie M. Clements at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Onalaska. He and his wife farmed in the Mindoro area for over 48 years.
Lester was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of Gunderson-Gilbertson American Legion Post 507 of Mindoro. Lester enjoyed country western music and dancing. After his retirement, he enjoyed playing cards and watching the Brewers.
Survivors include his wife, Elsie; five children, Joan (Gary) Pralle of West Salem, Jean (Ken Skalon) Kaiser of Hustisford, Wis., Ken (Mary Beth) and Lynn (Mary Clare), both of West Salem, and Jeff (Dawn) of Mindoro; 14 grandchildren, Jessica (Sam) Larson and Luke Pralle, Thad (Kylee) Furlong and Nicole Lakey, Ryan (fiancee Samantha) Clements, Heather (Codi) Raabe, Derek Clements, Travis and Jared Kaiser, Kristine and Katelyn Kaiser, Karissa Kaiser and Justin and Brandon Munyon; seven great-grandchildren, Ethan and Cade Larson, Harley and Hayden Furlong, Donnie Lakey and Dominick and Jackson Raabe; four sisters, Evelyn Olson of La Crescent, Minn., Delores Soller of La Crosse, Lorraine (Paul) Wagner of Dodge, Wis., and Martha (Bob) Armstrong of Holmen; two brothers, Lawrence (Dale) and Roger (Emmie), both of New Berlin, Wis.; two sisters-in-law, Millie Kaiser of La Crosse and Carol Kaiser of Onalaska; a brother-in-law, George Olson of Holmen; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; six brothers, LaVerne, Butch, Fritz, Wally (Sirjean), Robert (Gerrie) and Duwayne; three sisters, Veronica (Raymond) Gerke, Gladys (Ralph) Brown and Irene Olson; and two brothers-in-law, Gordon Olson and Jim Soller.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 20, at St. Leo The Great Catholic Church, 210 W. Hamlin St., West Salem. Father Bob Hegenbarth will officiate. Burial will be in Farmington Cemetery, with military honors by Mindoro American Legion Post 507 and the U.S. Army Funeral Honor Guard.

Sidney ‘Sid’ M. Kirchner
MINDORO — Sidney “Sid” M. Kirchner, 78, of Mindoro died Sunday, Nov. 16, 2008, at his home. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Mindoro Lutheran Church. Burial will be in Farmington Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to

Dolores ‘Dolly’ Louise Langhofer
Dolores “Dolly” Louise Langhofer, 93, of La Crosse went to join the Lord on Sunday, Nov. 16, 2008.
She was born July 24, 1915, in La Crosse to Louis G. and Alice (Warninger) Lautz. Dolly graduated from La Crosse Central High School in 1934 and then attended La Crosse Vocational School (now Western Technical College) and received her secretarial degree. Before she was married, she helped her father in the family orchard in La Crescent, Minn. She married Walter L. Langhofer in La Crosse on April 29, 1939. He preceded her in death on March 24, 1990. Dolly worked as a secretary for Mathy Construction for 15 years before moving to La Porte, Ind., where her husband worked for Allis Chalmers after it closed in La Crosse. After her husband retired, they returned to La Crosse, where Dolly worked as a secretary at La Crosse Cooler Company until it closed and Dolly retired.
Dolly wrote many poems and books for her children and grandchildren. She loved the river and learned to water ski. She loved to golf, play cards and she made many crewel pictures for her family. Dolly was a member of the Women of the Moose Chapter 1920 since 1980 and was also a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church.
Dolly is survived by two daughters, Darlene (Joel) Urban of Rhode Island and Bonnie (John) Raatz of La Crosse; six grandchildren, Greg (Julie) Urban, Dan (Michelle) Urban, Jim (Mariah) Urban, Niki (Kinter) Van Horn, Amy (Rick) Kujawa and John (Stacy) Raatz; 14 great-grandchildren; a sister,Ramona Lunde of La Crosse; a brother, Louie (Bev) Lautz of La Crosse;and many other relatives and friends.
In addition to her husband Walter, she was preceded in death by a brother, Harold.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 20, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in La Crosse. The Revs. Roger Hjelle and Meredith McGrath will officiate. Burial will be at Oak Grove Cemetery in La Crosse. Friends may call at Schumacher-Kish Funeral Home of La Crosse on Wednesday from 5 to 7 p.m. and at the church on Thursday from 10 a.m. until time of services.

Sister Grace (Justille) McDonald, FSPA
Sister Grace McDonald, Franciscan Sister of Perpetual Adoration, 90, died Sunday, Nov. 16, 2008, at Villa St. Joseph in La Crosse.
Sister Grace was born to John and Justine (Reimringer) McDonald on Nov. 26, 1917, in Spokane, Wash. She entered St. Rose Convent in 1933 and professed vows in 1937. Sister Grace ministered as an elementary teacher for nine years and secondary teacher for two years in schools in Iowa and Wisconsin. After earning M.A. and Ph.D. degrees in history, she taught in the history department of Viterbo College for eight years. Sister Grace was named President of Viterbo in 1960 and served in this capacity until her election as FSPA President in 1970. After eight years, Sister Grace moved to Spokane, where she was provincial of the FSPA Western Province from 1978-1982. Following a year’s sabbatical, she served as archivist for the Western Province for a year before being appointed FSPA Congregational Secretary. After two years, Sister Grace became FSPA archivist, a position she held for six years. From 1992 until the time of her death, Sister Grace was the FSPA Historian. She retired at St. Rose Convent in 2004 and to Villa St. Joseph in January 2008.
Sister Grace is survived by her Franciscan community; one sister, Gertrude Parker of Portland, Ore.; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and four sisters, Justine, Mary Catherine, Margaret and Agnes.
Friends may call after 3:15 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 19, when her body will be brought to St. Rose Convent in La Crosse. The Rev. Thomas O’Neill, chaplain at Viterbo University, La Crosse, will preside at the Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday, Nov. 20, at 10 a.m. in Mary of the Angels Chapel. Burial will be at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in La Crosse.

Canio ‘Carl’ N. Saluzzi
Canio “Carl” N. Saluzzi, 91, of La Crosse passed away Saturday, Nov. 15, 2008, at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center in La Crosse.
He was born April 11, 1917, in Brooklyn, N.Y., to Pasqual and Rose (Nappa) Saluzzi. Carl was united in marriage to Ferol Viginia Bice on May 2, 1944. Carl worked for Allis Chalmers for 25 years and retired from the U.S. Postal Service.
Carl served as a corporal in the U.S. Army and received the Bronze Star Medal for exemplary conduct in ground combat against the armed enemy during the European Theater of Operations in World War II. He also received the Purple Heart for being wounded in the March across France.
Carl is survived by his wife, Ferol Saluzzi; three sons, Ronald (Lois) Sherman of Black River Falls, Robert (Marlene) Saluzzi of La Crosse and Richard “Scott” Saluzzi (Mary Saluzzi Hertzfeldt and Tammy Fetsch-Saluzzi) of La Crosse; nine grandchildren, Sally (Gary) Elmer of Oregon, Wis., Andrew (Angie) Sherman of Black River Falls, Kathleen (Jeffrey) O’Flanagan of Superior, Wis., Kari (Jeremy) Saluzzi Olson of Superior, Shannon (Todd) Saluzzi Bergquist of Altoona, Wis., Lisa Saluzzi of Holmen, Kris Saluzzi (David Whitewater) of La Crosse, Lindsay Saluzzi of La Crosse and Brandy (Joe) Zenz of Galesville; nine great-grandchildren; and two brothers in New York.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters.

Justin Jerome Steinhoff
Justin Jerome Stein-hoff, 27, of La Crosse passed away peacefully on Saturday, Nov. 15, 2008, after a long battle with cancer and it’s aftermath.
He was born in La Crosse on Dec. 8, 1980, to Jerome and Karen (Ringdahl) Steinhoff. Justin was loved very deeply by all who knew him. He would love back with no conditions. Justin loved to travel and was a huge Green Bay Packers fan. The hole his absence will create will never be filled.
In addition to his parents of La Crosse, he is survived by one sister, Lindsey Steinhoff of Chicago; and his very special best friend and maternal grandmother, “Nana” Lois Ringdahl of La Crosse. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents and his maternal grandfather.
Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 19, at Schumacher-Kish Funeral Home of La Crosse. Private family burial will take place at a later date. Friends may call at the funeral home Wednesday from 1 p.m. until time of services.

Joyce M. Tumaniec
BLACK RIVER FALLS/LA CROSSE/HIXTON — Joyce M. Tumaniec, 73 entered the Kingdom of Heaven to rest eternally with our Lord and Savior on Sunday, Nov. 16, 2008, in Black River Falls.
She was born Sept. 24, 1935, in La Crosse to George and Philomene (Blasen) Kletzke.
On June 19, 1956, Joyce was united in marriage to Richard “Dick” Tumaniec in La Crescent, Minn., and together they celebrated over 50 wedded years together. In their younger years, Joyce and Dick enjoyed dancing and playing cards with family and friends. Joyce actively participated in the American Legion Auxiliary and was a member of the Hixton Homemakers.
Joyce was an excellent cook who enjoyed making meals for her family. She and Dick took several trips throughout the United States and Canada. Joyce especially enjoyed fishing trips with Dick and their two sons.
Joyce is survived by her two sons, William Tumaniec, serving in the U.S. Army and based in Fort Bliss, Texas, and Richard (Tracey) Tumaniec of Black River Falls; two grandchildren, Marie Rose Tumaniec of North Carolina and Nicholas Richard Tumaniec of Black River Falls; one grandchild expected in December; and one brother, Jean (Lillian) Kletzke of La Crescent, Minn. Joyce was preceded in death by her husband, Dick on Aug. 8, 2006, and her parents.
A committal service will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 20, in the St. Francis of Assisi Mausoleum Chapel at the Catholic Cemetery in La Crosse, with Deacon Richard Sage officiating. Friends and family may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Schumacher-Kish Funeral Home, 200 West Ave. S., La Crosse, with a rosary to be recited at 6:15 p.m.
