Attorney disciplined for drug charge

.
A La Crosse attorney convicted of manufacturing an illegal drug will lose his license for 90 days effective Jan. 19, according to the Wisconsin Supreme Court.

The Office of Lawyer Regulation filed a complaint of criminal conduct against Gene Radcliffe on July 22, 2008, after the conclusion of his felony case in Clark County Circuit Court.
Illinois police found marijuana, drug paraphernalia and hydroponic equipment in Radcliffe’s vehicle in early 2007, according to the court. Marijuana plants and supplies used to grow the drug were located during a search of his Clark County home, court records state.

Radcliffe, 57, pleaded guilty in Clark County Circuit Court to one felony charge of manufacturing a controlled substance and was sentenced Dec. 19, 2007, to 28 days time served, three years probation and 100 hours of community service.

Radcliffe, whose work address is listed as 430 N. Ninth St., began practicing law in Wisconsin in 1976 and received a private reprimand in 1981.

" It is interesting that he only got one felony....this should set precedence for ANY person who is busted for pot in the near future. If an attorney can get such a light sentence for growing it, any person growing pot, have drug paraphnalia or the like should get the same sentence. Time for the "good ole boys club" to quit playing favorites. Any average Joe would have gone to prison for years and gotten it for sale and distribution just for growing it, even if it was just for themselves. "

" You mean the ridiculous "war on some drugs." Of course if a person wants to drink themselves stupid or into a blackout or unconsciousness, well they can put up billboard encouraging this. But heaven forbid a person might smoke a little herb and wake up and start thinking for themselves! No our corrupt government cannot tolerate that! Only drugs that put you asleep allowed. That way when the gov't steals money from you to give to the rich you won't mind because you're passed out or hung over. I would just ask these people who freak out about pot if they have ever tried it. Seems like the people who are most shocked over pot use have no first hand experience. Another example of effective gov't brainwashing. Studies show marijuana may protect the brain against alzheimer's disease. The only harmful effect of pot is prohibition. "

" Money makes things happen. Any relation to ole Judge Radcliiffe, the hanging judge from nieghboring Jackson county or the Radcliffe who just got voted in Clark Co? "

" 90 days license suspension for growing - a felony - and not just a puff from his small personal stash? This sounds more like a sentence you would give someone for a first offense DWI. Six months in the poky and a five year license suspension is a more fitting sentence. "

" It is a Club!
Here in Lacrosse our former DA, Municipal Judge, and 'On Too Many Boards' (Attorneys) were excused from divorce classes and specific Court Orders if you had children. Try being a clerk at Kwik Trip, Shopko or or other and getting away with that! "

" Another example of this pointless war on drugs we've been fighting for the past 80 years. Here's a hard-working professional who won't be able to make a contribution to society for the next 90 days. At least he's growing his own instead of contributing to the so-called evils of the God-given plant (gangs, sales to minors, etc.). "

" In CA, he would have gotten off with a note from his crooked doctor and probably elected mayor of SF. "

" Wow, he got off light....must have had a good attorney. Average Joe would have gone to prison for years. "
