Atop the 250 foot tower of St. Mary's Church in Krakow, overlooking the Market Square and the Gothic Clothier's Hall, a lone man sounds his trumpet four times to the four corners of the city. Just as in the year 1241, a trumpeter warning the city of approaching Tartar invaders was interrupted when slain by an enemy arrow. His unfinished fanfare is memorialized every hour of every day echoing across the ancient rooftops for more than seven centuries.
