La Crosse’s Corey Sorenson has another TV role, but this time it’s on one of the most-viewed shows on television, “NCIS.”
In this week’s segment, Sorenson plays a man who is grieving for his murdered wife, a Navy lieutenant, and he has three scenes with Mark Harmon, the CBS show’s star and executive producer. The segment will air at 7 p.m. Tuesday on WKBT-TV.
Sorenson, a graduate of Logan High School and the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse, has appeared in “Numb3rs,” “Law & Order: SVU,” the ABC Family series “Greek” and two episodes of the FX cable series, “Rescue Me.”
He said his scenes in “NCIS” were filmed in one 13-hour day where he had the opportunity to hang out on the set with Harmon, who shared acting stories with him.
“He specifically talked about working with Karl Malden, who really mentored him when they were doing a film together early on in Mark’s career,” Sorenson said. “Mark takes the opportunity every week to mentor the young people that come onto his show.
“I was the lucky recipient of that mentorship,” he said. “It was a unique experience for me.”
Sorenson, who lives in Los Angeles, said he found a great role model in Harmon.
“He’s the type of actor that I hope to become,” Sorenson said. “He loves his job, loves his family, works very hard and he really cares about creating a working environment where people feel valued and appreciated. That’s really special out here.”
Sorenson said he auditioned for the TV show at Paramount Studios one day and then began working the next week.
“My first day of work, they’d just found out that they were the most-watched television show —with over 20 million viewers, so everyone was in a great mood,” Sorenson said. “All of their hard work was paying off.”
In the future, Sorenson said, he is looking at a short-action film and the part of a young cop uncovering corruption in his department. He said he is writing a film with a friend from graduate school, Kunal Nayyar, who stars in the CBS series “The Big Bang Theory.”
“Other than that, I’m looking forward to coming home to see my family over the holidays,” he said.
