TRIBUNE BASEBALL PLAYER OF THE YEAR: Central's Warren proved at the plate, on the mound and in the field that he is ‘a player with all the intangibles’
Lucas Warren is someone former Central baseball coach Gregg Erickson couldn’t resist throwing into the fire right away. He had a lot to learn, but Warren has spent the last four seasons soaking up everything he can about the game. “He’s a player with all the intangibles,” Central coach Kent Van Egtern said. “He consistently outworked everybody, and it shows.” He displayed those intangibles in impressive fashion this spring, and that’s why Warren’s been selected from a deep pool of candidates as the Tribune Baseball Player of the Year.

Obama’s health plan has failed before
President Barack Obama’s health plan is modeled after the failed Massachusetts plan, which was supposed to make health insurance affordable but has increased costs, wasted taxpayers’ money, hurt small businesses, limited patients’ choices and created shortages and long waiting lists. The Cato Institute reports health insurance in Massachusetts costs an average of $16,897 for a family of four, compared with a national average of $12,700.

Steve Cahalan: Walgreens still plans to open La Crosse store in early 2010 (2009/07/05)
I’ve gotten some phone calls and e-mails from readers in the past few weeks, asking whether the Walgreens drug store chain still plans to open its third La Crosse store at Losey Boulevard and Mormon Coulee Road. The old buildings at the site were demolished several months ago, but there’s been little activity there since then.
