VIOLA - Dyle Elwood Kanable, 95, of Viola died on Monday, Nov. 2, 2009, at Vernon Memorial Health-care in Viroqua.
He was born on Nov. 1, 1914, in the town of Forest, Richland County, Wis., son of Brainard and Ethel (Jones) Kanable. He married Jessie Wonn on July 2, 1950, in Dodgeville, Wis. He graduated from Viola Public High School in 1933, and ran a portable feed mill and built silos before enlisting in the U.S. Marine Corps on Dec. 8, 1941. He owned and operated the Viola Mobil Station for several years before going into business with Tiny Ambrose (K & A Standard Service). Then in 1968, he went to work for the Kickapoo Area Schools as a bus mechanic until he retired in 2004.
He loved traveling, baseball, deer hunting, fishing and the county fairs. He never missed a harness race. He attended the very first Viola Horse & Colt Show and every one after that. Dyle was a charter member of the Viola American Legion Post 447. Survivors include his wife, Jessie Kanable of Viola; three children, Bonnie (Jim) Thoftne of Soldiers Grove, Lorene Kanable (Kevin Tuckwood) of Richland Center and William Kanable of Viola; three grandsons, Matthew Thoftne and Mark Thoftne of Cashton and John Dyle Thoftne of Richland Center; one sister, Marian Perry of Madison; eight sisters-in-law; four brothers-in-law; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Funeral services will be held at Vosseteig Funeral Home's Henthorn Memorial Center, 129 S. Main St., Viola, on Friday, Nov. 6, at 1 p.m. Burial will be in Viola Cemetery, with military honors provided by Viola American Legion Post 447. Visitation will be held at Vosseteig Funeral Home's Henthorn Memorial Center today from 4 to 6 p.m. Friends may also call one hour prior to the service.
