The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse has created a Web site for everything international. The site www.uwlax.edu/international, un-veiled Thursday, is de-signed to serve students interested in studying abroad, and prospective UW-L students and faculty.
The Web is one of the main ways UW-L recruits international students, said Gary Gilmore, a UW-L professor who helped develop the site. This and direct recruiting strategies have boosted the number of international students on campus each year, he said.
UW-L is second in the UW System in its percentage of international students and scholars, with 437 this year.
The site also will benefit students on campus. Faculty leading international tours can report using the site while still abroad, said Gilmore.
About one-third of UW-L students study abroad by the time they graduate. The numbers are growing, Gilmore said, with 400 students studying abroad this year, its largest group ever.
