TOWN OF LITTLE FALLS — A 41-year-old Sparta man was injured early Thursday when the car he was driving went into a ditch and sideswiped a power pole, according to a news release from the Monroe County Sheriff’s Department.
A vehicle driven by Joseph A. Van Dyke was eastbound on Hwy. 71, just east of Dakota Avenue in the town of Little Falls, when it failed to negotiate a curve, left the roadway went into a ditch and sideswiped a power pole before traveling through some heavy brush and small trees and coming to rest, according to the news release.
Van Dyke was taken to Franciscan Skemp Hospital in Sparta by Sparta Area Ambulance Service with nonlife-threatening injuries, according to the news release. He was the only occupant of the vehicle.
Assisting the sheriff’s department at the scene were the Cataract First Responders, Sparta Rural Fire Department and the Sparta Area Ambulance Service.
The accident remains under investigation by the Monroe County Sheriff’s Department.
