What is black and white and could earn you $1,000?
Harry.
The friendly cat with a tuxedo-colored coat went missing in late September and his loving owners are worried.
When they set the reward, owners Amy and Jeff Wrobel of rural La Crosse noticed people scouring their neighborhood in search of the Oktoberfest medallion.
"We thought if they're willing to go look for a medallion for $500, there must be someone willing to look for this homeless, furry soul for $1,000," said Amy.
Harry met Amy when she started working at La Crescent Animal Rescue about two years ago. The very personable kitten would always greet her at the shelter door and follow her around as she fed the other cats.
"I grew to love him. He was my friend, and I feel horrible he is out there missing, especially now that it's cold out at night," she said.
Amy eventually found Harry some owners, but he went missing near their home in the St. Joseph's Ridge area.
Since then, the Wrobels have posted signs on nearly every telephone pole in
St. Joseph's Ridge and stuck flyers in every mail box, said Amy. They even sent an automatic phone message - a pet Amber Alert of sorts - to
500 homes in the area through an online service for lost pets at www.findtoto.com.
Their efforts have generated more than 50 concerned callers but no Harry. One woman kindly offered up her own cat, a nun let them know she was praying for them and plenty have called to report other black and white cats.
"It is unbelievable how many people care," said Amy. "It melts our hearts."
