TREMPEALEAU, Wis. - A fisherman was rescued from a chilly Mississippi River early Monday at Lock and Dam No. 6, according to the lock master.
A towboat notified the lock and dam of a capsized fishing boat about 8:40 a.m., said lock master Terry Jessessky. A lock and dam operator in a rescue boat found the man holding onto the motor of his capsized boat as it floated downriver.
The fisherman held onto the rescue boat and was pulled to a public boat landing, Jessessky said. The man was treated and released from a local hospital.
"He thought the life jacket he was wearing was a lot of the reason why he is still with us," Jessessky said.
The boat was removed from the water and put on the man's trailer. He retrieved the boat later Monday.
