Katherine Weber and Anna Koll were repeat winners, as Viterbo University had 10 finalists at the state auditions of the National Association of Teachers in Singing last week in Eau Claire.

Weber, a Viterbo senior from Holmen, took first place for the third consecutive year at the auditions. Koll, a Viterbo senior, won for the second time, this time in the continuing senior women division. Viterbo’s 10 finalists were the most of any university in the state.

Alaina Cole, a Viterbo freshman, won her division, while Samantha Megan won the lower college music theater class as Viterbo swept the first three places. Jeff Kroes, a member of the La Crosse Chamber Chorale, won the adult division.

Viterbo had four second-place winners — Aidan Smerud of La Crosse, sophomore men; Ashley Mispagel, junior women; Charlie Vogt, junior men; and Jill Iverson, lower college music theater. Allen Pruitt, a Viterbo graduate, was second in the advanced division.

Four Viterbo students finished third in their divisions — Raymond Graybar of La Crescent, Minn., freshmen men; Ryan McCoy, advanced; Paige Fayer Hauer, lower college music theater women; and Jimmy Erickson, upper college music theater men.

Viterbo freshman Auriel Nigl, a La Crosse Aquinas graduate, was fourth in her division.

Aaron White of La Crescent High School took second place in the high school boys division, and Sivu Schlegel, a home-school student, was second in the high school music theater boys division.  Audra Fuchsel of Onalaska High School, placed second in the high school girls division. La Crosse Central’s Elena Weaver was a finalist in high school girls division.

Lauren Bannon, a University of Wisconsin-La Crosse junior, was a semifinalist in her division. Viterbo semifinalists  were Caroline Kuschel, Megan Rinehart, Ken Lauer, Anna Smerud, Chelsey Spaeth, Colleen Paul, Elayne Juten and Laura Bien.

More than 345 singers participated in the auditions.
