Today, almost every discussion about current affairs, whether on the government level or a house party, includes foreign affairs, health care, the environment and the economy. This discussion almost always results in a discussion of whether any option is financially possible. I think it is important to consider a person who has always shown he is conscientious and has always had fiscal responsibility in mind.

U.S. Sen. Russ Feingold is thought of for his relentless fight for constitutional rights and energy independence. However, he has always been fiscally responsible as well.

In March, Feingold led a Senate vote to end the automatic pay raises for members of Congress. He should be praised for his efforts. On this same level, he never accepts a pay raise or an increase in his cost of living. He sends the money back to the U.S. Treasury until he is

re-elected.

Feingold also considers the future and the American people when voting and makes sure his vote is always fiscally responsible. He thinks in a "PAYGO," or "pay as you go," manner. He believes that any new tax cut or spending should be paid for, as to not increase the deficit.

Feingold has been recognized for this by the Concord Coalition, Taxpayers for Common Sense and the National Taxpayers Union, I think it is important that we look to all of our politicians to be as responsible as Feingold has been.
