(2008/09/05) West Salem’s Steve Carlson, who captured the Kwik Trip Late Model track championship at the La Crosse Fairgrounds Speedway this past weekend, has moved up to 18th place in the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series national point standings.
(2008/09/03) WEST SALEM — Steve Carlson, track champion — twice. Carlson, who won his seventh feature in nine starts Friday night at Hawkeye Downs to capture the track championship, made it two track championships in two nights when he won one 50-lap feature and finished third in the other to win the La Crosse Fairgrounds Speedway title.
(2008/09/03) WEST SALEM — Let’s just say that Steve Carlson isn’t likely to pen a cliffhanger, or write a screen play based on suspense. This guy knows what he wants, then grabs it.
(2008/08/30) Steve Carlson spent much of his career hopscotching across the Midwest, winning stock car races against top-flight drivers at tracks in Kaukauna, Wis., Grundy County, Ill., and Erie, Colo., to name a few.
(2008/08/29) WEST SALEM — It is almost impossible to top a national championship season, but Steve Carlson’s doing his best.
(2008/08/24) WEST SALEM — No one would have blamed Todd Korish if he would have left his wrenches in his tool box and his stock car in the trailer. He was on a streak of bad luck that can suck all the fun out of racing.
(2008/08/23) I wasn’t at the La Crosse Fairgrounds Speedway last week when Kevin Nuttleman won this 104th career Late Model feature race, so I didn’t see the pink ribbon on his ocean-blue car.
(2008/08/21) WEST SALEM, Wis. — Ask Brad Powell how he spends a typical Saturday night, and he’ll tell you he either watches television or just kicks back and relaxes at home.
(2008/08/17) WEST SALEM, Wis. — Career victory No. 104 almost never happened Saturday night. And Kevin Nuttleman wasn’t shy about admitting it.
(2008/08/16) A year ago at this time, we were keeping a close eye on West Salem’s Steve Carlson as he chased a once-impossible dream of winning a national short-track championship.
(2008/08/15) WEST SALEM, Wis.— Brent Kirchner and his pit crew were in full scramble mode Saturday night. And yes, they were a tad concerned. Perhaps the flat right rear tire, the result of running over debris after winning the Kwik Trip Late Model Division Even Dash, was an omen that Kirchner’s luck was about to change.
(2008/08/12) WEST SALEM, Wis.— Brent Kirchner and his pit crew were in full scramble mode Saturday night. And yes, they were a tad concerned.
(2008/08/10) WEST SALEM, Wis. — For Brent Kirchner, it almost was like hitting either a yellow or red light at every intersection. His timing just wasn’t where he wanted it to be.
(2008/08/10) WEST SALEM, Wis. — It’s August, it’s hot, and it’s the time of season where race car drivers get a little irritable. OK, considerably irritable.
